Screen and camera protectors: what they do and which to get
A case covers the back and sides. A tempered glass screen protector and a camera protector cover the parts it can't. What each one does.

A good case protects the back and sides of your phone, but two things are still exposed: the screen and the camera lenses. Those are the parts that crack, and they're the most expensive to repair. That's what screen and camera protectors are for.
Tempered glass screen protector

A tempered glass protector is a thin sheet of glass that sits on top of your screen. Tempered glass is four to five times stronger than regular glass of the same thickness, so it takes the knocks and scratches your screen would otherwise get.
- Clear: your screen looks just as bright and sharp.
- Smooth to touch: it feels close to your phone's own glass.
- Safer if it breaks: it shatters into small, blunt pieces.
If it ever cracks, you replace a protector, not a screen.
Camera protector

A camera protector adds a clear glass layer over each lens. It guards against scratches, cracks and dust without dulling your photos, and it's cut for the exact camera layout of your model. It's designed to work with most cases.
Do you need both?
- You drop your phone a lot: get both, with a Tough case.
- Your phone lives in a pocket with keys: the screen protector matters most.
- You take a lot of photos: a camera protector keeps the lenses clear.
